Amazing Hillstone Wedding Celebration!

Sephora and Kirit met while studying and living on campus at the University of Queensland, St Lucia, and it was almost 10 years later to the day, that they tied the knot! It was an obvious choice for them to return to the university grounds were they met and we had lots of fun along with their bridal party in the Great Court.

Sephora remembers…

“There was laughter and contagious joy throughout the day. Just when I thought that things couldn’t get any better, Kirit surprised me and 125 of our friends and family, by singing our first dance song – which in his version, became ‘lady in white’!”

And her advice to future couples…

“Treasure every moment and remember that it is the little bungles that make the journey more entertaining.”

Belinda + Brad’s beautiful rainy wedding day!

It isn’t too often that we get the groom to write a few words, so it’s exciting to hear what Brad has to say about their wedding day…

“Belinda and I were married on what turned out to be the wettest March day in 2013, with our ceremony and reception both at the Tarragindi Bowls Club – but the rained failed to put any dent on what was the happiest day of our lives. The forecast all week had been for rain, so we were prepared for and expecting it. What mattered most was that our family and friends were there with us to help us celebrate this special day. Thanks to Belinda’s excellent organisational skills, the day ran perfectly. Sophie’s work with the photos was amazing and our wet weather “back-up” locations at the Spring Hill Baths and the Santos building meant that the photos turned out as good as or even better than our original dry weather plan. Our highlights for the day were many, but most of all included simply enjoying the moment, both knowing that the day goes so quickly. We also booked a comedian to keep our guests entertained while we had our photo shoot, which was very well received and helped set the tone for a very fun and happy evening. We honeymooned at the Sunshine Coast. Thanks to all the many people who helped make the day such a success and so much fun.”

Gorgeous wedding at Lightspace Brisbane

TaNaya and Adam had an amazing wedding day, including a roof top sunset and their celebrations at Lightspace! Here’s a few words from our bride TaNaya…

“Neither of us have ever been ‘planners’ so to organise a wedding was a daunting task to begin with, however by having such supportive vendors they guided us down the 7 month journey we were to go on. All of our choices were made from the heart and we had an instant connection with those we chose knowing they could create and capture our celebration of love.

The days leading up to the wedding were very calm. A majority of our wedding party and guests came from interstate, and with every day closer brought another loved one… soon we had a full house and the last minute flutter began. The morning of the wedding brought its mishaps including a hair and makeup emergency – it started a phone tree of friends and family including the groom attempting to find a hair and makeup person at last minute and all this before 9am! Luckily this was to be the only hiccup on the day and the stress of the morning was soon forgotten.

As I walked into our venue at Lightspace I was overwhelmed with emotion as our venue was transformed into exactly what we hoped for (thanks to Amini Concepts and Lightspace). Then, as I peaked through the sheer curtain I saw my husband to be, and at that moment it was the first time I had ever felt that level of happiness, love, and excitement all at once.

We are so lucky to have such beautiful photos. Sophie and Wendy managed to capture the essence of the day and all the little special moments in between.”

Pretty Details {Tuesday Treat}

We love nothing more than pretty details at the weddings we photograph – we’ve had so many lately that we thought we’d share just a few of our favourites!

Bird cages, blooms, green bottles and DIY vases, candles, seating plans on vintage window frames, typewriters and so many other creative ideas. Our couples are coming up with lots of unique ways to decorate their wedding ceremony and reception tables. We love it!!

Jessica & Travis’s beautiful wedding day! {Ballina Wedding Photographer}

Jess and Trav had booked us a fair way out from their wedding, so we had been chatting a lot about all the ideas for their wedding. By the time the day finally came we were as excited as them!

Jess and her bridesmaids all got ready at the Ramada Hotel in Ballina. Her dress was amazing featuring beautiful feathers on the corset and the bridesmaids all wore different coloured pastel dresses. We absolutely loved all of Jess’s styling from the hydrangea bouquets bound with twine (that Jess and the bridesmaids did the day before) to the cute pictures of their parents and grandparents and the hay bails covered with calico to sit on at the reception, all so gorgeous!

Trav and the boys all got ready at Trav’s parents property where they had their ceremony and reception. It was so cute when the little kids walked down the aisle holding their “Here comes the bride” signs, Jess and Trav could not be any happier when they saw each other. Being high school sweet hearts they were soo ready to be married! They had a really sweet ceremony followed by a little walk around the property for bridal party photos.

They speeches to start the reception and I loved it when Jess thanked her parents for teaching her how to love, such a sweet moment and a very very sweet couple!

They had an amazing catering company, who cooked up individual noodle boxes for all the guests with tall glasses of iced mohitos followed by a gelato bar for dessert with gold dusted macarons! So delicious!

Wedding Timeline: Post Ceremony {Tuesday Treat}

Post Ceremony – Allow 45mins

Hooray, you are officially married and it’s time to walk out and receive congratulations from your family and friends. This is one of the most special parts of the day and you won’t be able to take the smile off your faces! It is always nice to try and hug your parents and grandparents first, then the bridal party and all your guests will wait in line for a chance to hug you. We love to capture all candids at this time and like to get shots of you both and also all your guests laughing and having a wonderful time.

We prefer if you just enjoy this special moment and don’t worry about rushing off for any other shots, we will let you know when it’s time to start looking at doing the group shot, usually 15mins or so after you walk out.

Your Group Shot

It is so lovely to have a record of all your guests as a big group. We will usually ask whoever has the loudest voice to request everyone to gather in a certain spot and we then move people into that area too. If we notice any guests start to leave before this we will ask them to hold on for a moment so everyone is included.

For your group shot we do one shot of everyone looking at the camera, then you can do a kissing or cheering shot too if you wish. We do get this done quickly as possible as some venues have time limits on how long you can be there after the ceremony has finished.

Having two photographers is great so one will do the wide group shot and the other will focus in on the bride and groom!

Family Shots

For your formal family shots we do get a list from you about a month out from the wedding. We bring this list on the day of exactly who you would like in each shot, this saves you having to think of who should be in each shot on the spot and allows us to quickly get this done. Always double check the list with your parents to make sure they are happy with the combinations too. It also gives us an idea of who may not like to be in the same photo together and save anyone feeling upset.

If you have elderly grandparents it is good to get their shots done first up so they can sit down if needed or leave to go to the reception. It is also a great idea to let everyone know before the ceremony if they will be in a shot so they know not to leave early.

These family shots are more formal and are all just looking towards the camera. We will ask your family to put bags, sunglasses etc to the side and just have your arms relaxed by your side. We are infinitely patient with everyone and often get thanked for being so patient and calm during these shots!

Bride’s side:

3. Bride + Groom + Bride’s parents

4. Bride + Groom + Bride’s siblings (with and without partners/children)

5. Bride + Groom + Bride’s parents + Bride’s siblings (with and without partners/children)

Groom’s side:

6. Bride + Groom + Groom’s grandparents

7. Bride + Groom + Groom’s grandparents + Bride’s parents + Bride’s siblings/partners

8. Bride + Groom + Groom’s parents

9. Bride + Groom + Groom’s siblings (with and without partners/children)

10. Bride + Groom + Groom’s parents + Bride’s siblings (with and without partners/children)

You can then add in some larger family groups including aunties and uncles, and a couple of friends shots if there’s time, otherwise these can be done at the reception.

We will then head off for your Bridal Party location shoot for loads of fun shots!
